Rakim, Ghostface Killa, Brother Ali
Just getting back from an awesome show at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz. It was my first time getting to see Rakim perform and that just made my evening. The guy is so instrumental to the development of rap and to just hear him perform was spectacular. Ghostface put on a good show and made sure to hit a few Wu-Tang classics and gave a shout-out to ODB as well. I had never heard of Brother Ali before but i really liked him. Apparently his album, Undisputed Truth, is coming out soon. I’m going to try and remember to buy it.
happyCrazy for You
The other day i was hit with a wave of nostalgia. Let’s go back to 1997 shall we, my senior year in high school. Our senior play was Crazy for You. It was one of my first times before on stage, especially singing. It’s the only musical i’ve ever really enjoyed even though most of the songs are taken from previous Gershwin productions. I had a small part but hammed it up and stole a couple scenes. Well, the other day some of the songs were going through my head and I just decided that i needed to have the original broadway cast recording. Once again Amazon comes through. My cd came today and I’ve been listening to it ever since I got home. Stoli just looks at my weird as I sing Someone to watch over me
Now i wonder if there is some way to track down a copy of my senior play to just see it again and to reminisce about how thin i was back then.
nostalgicQ-Unit
So most people have heard about the Grey Album, the remixed combination of the Black Album by Jay-z and the White Album by the Beatles. Last week, I heard another combination ablum, Q-Unit: Greatest Hits. So what are the two artists you ask? 50 Cent and Queen!…yep, it’s not at odd as it sounds thou. I think that my favorite is probably “If I Can’t Be A Champion”. It’s just a really cool mix. It’s really sorta trippy to hear Freddie Mercury singing backup vocals for 50 Cent. I highly suggest everyone download it and give it a listen.
cheerfulBreak Ya Neck
Just got back from seeing Busta Rhymes perform up in San Francisco, or ‘the City’ as everyone hear calls it. that cracks me up by the way. the show was awesome! I love going to a busta rhymes show, i always know that i’m going to have a great time. I’ll write up more later but right now i’m just really tired so it’s off to bed i go.
sleepyheard ‘em say
I really like this song by Kanye West. I think that it’s the combination of the instrumental and the lyrics. It’s got a light floating feel to the beat, but the lyrics aren’t light. I really like the juxiposition ( and yes i know that i misspelled that). The chorus is sung by Adam Levine, from Maroon 5. Apparently he’s on quite a few rap/r&b albums as of late.
below are the links…i just really like this song at the moment:
(Kanye West)
And I heard ‘em say
nothin’s ever promised tomorrow, today
From the Chi, Like Tim, it’s a Hardaway
till this is in the name of love, like robert say
Before you ask me to go get a job today,
can I at least get a raise on the minimum wage?
And I know the government administer aids,
So I guess we just pray like the minister say
Abu Akhbar be throwin’ some hot cause(?)
things we seein’ on the screen not ours
but these niggas from the hood, so these dreams not far
where I’m from the dope boys is the rock stars
but they can’t cop cars without seein’ cop cars
I guess they want us all behind bars, I know it, uhChorus:
And I heard ‘em say, nothin’s ever promised tomorrow, today
And I heard ‘em say, nothin’s ever promised tomorrow today
But we’ll find a way
(Adam Levine)
And nothin’ lasts forever, but be honest babe
Hurts, but it might be the only way(Kanye West)
They say people in your life for seasons
And anything that happen is for a reason
And niggas gun-clappin’ and keep to squeezin’
And gran’ keep prayin’ and keep believin’
In Jesus, and one day that she’ll see him
Till then in walk his footsteps and try to be him,
The devil is alive, I feel him breathin’
Claimin’ money is the key, so keep on dreamin’
And put them lottery tickets just to tease us
My Aunt Pam can’t put them cigarettes down,
So now my lil’ cousin smokin’ them cigarettes now
His job try to claim that he too niggerish now
Is it cuz his skin blacker than licorice now?
I can’t figure it out, sick of it now,Chorus:
And I heard ‘em say, nothin’s ever promised tomorrow, today
And I heard ‘em say, nothin’s ever promised tomorrow today
But we’ll find a way
(Adam Levine)
And nothin’ lasts forever, but be honest babe
Hurts, but it might be the only way(Adam Levine)
With every worthless word we get more far away
And nothin’s ever promised tomorrow, today
And nothin lasts forever, but be honest, babe
Hurts, but it may be the only way
Ok, people…give me feedback…like? dislike? could care less? anyone heard it besides me?:-)
