Musings of a Crackpot

My power kept surging here this evening and it apparently crashed my PC with my thunderbird client was doing something. The end result…I lost all my e-mails…but I didn’t lost my contacts which is the silver lining on this particular cloud. I’m not quite sure what the hell happened and right now I’m too tired to research and try to restore all my e-mails, I’m sure that they are on my PC somewhere.

On the plus side of things for today, I bought a little space heater after being told that i had to;-) Now my upstairs is a non-freezing 70 degrees, or at least that’s what the heater says, i say it’s in the mid 60’s but I’ll take it…now i’m off to bed to read some more of Absolute Watchmen and then fall asleep while not freezing to death. It’s not supposed to be cold here:-), and really it’s not…it’s like the low 40’s at the worst here.

I bought Dragon Quest VIII just for the FFXII demo that came with it. However, DQ8 is all tht i’ve been playing this weekend, The characters were created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball franchise. One can definitely see his hand in all the characters, it’s like watching a lost DBZ episode, even down to how the king runs in DQ8. He runs with his arms sticking out just like in DBZ.

The voice acting is pretty good i think, everyone’s British thou, since is sorta just cute and funny. There are a couple in-jokes as well, like there are two kids in one of the villages are named Basherz and Mash..hehe…that’ just cute. Well back to the ‘Quest for me.

So most people have heard about the Grey Album, the remixed combination of the Black Album by Jay-z and the White Album by the Beatles. Last week, I heard another combination ablum, Q-Unit: Greatest Hits. So what are the two artists you ask? 50 Cent and Queen!…yep, it’s not at odd as it sounds thou. I think that my favorite is probably “If I Can’t Be A Champion”. It’s just a really cool mix. It’s really sorta trippy to hear Freddie Mercury singing backup vocals for 50 Cent. I highly suggest everyone download it and give it a listen.

Yesterday was a good day for Tiayr. I go to work and I have a game delivered at work. That game would be Dragon Quest VIII. DQ8 is a good game, i like it so far but the better part was the wonderful wonderful Final Fantasy XII demo disc that came along. It contains a visually stunning intro, that seemed to remind me of Star Wars for some reason. The intro sets up that this game takes place in the same world as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance exists in. The developers have changed the battle system yet again, this changing of systems has actually become a staple of the FF franchise. FFXII uses a battle system that has it’s basis in the battle system of Final Fantasy XI. It’s an active battle system, that takes into account distances and locations of both your party members and the enemies. For example you can and ususally do more damage to an enemy if you attack it from behind. Since everything is actively time based, the battles are faster and all seem to have a sense of urgency to them.

However my favorite new part is that like FFXI you can see your enemies on the world map, so there are no random battles. That’s not the best part, the best part is that all the monsters interact with each other and some of them just don’t like each other. It’s great, you can just set back and watch them fight each other, I definitely hope that this feature remains in the final version of game. High comedy is seeing a T-Rex toss around some tiny Mandys…heheh…the first time i saw it i giggled like a little kid.

my apartment needs this!! This is hands down one of the coolest things that I’ve seen in a long time. Whoever did this had way too much free time on their hands and are way too smart. I just watch it and laugh, which was perfect for a day like today. This has definitely been one of my most stressful days at the new job, i have learn that if you get thrown under the bus enough times the undercarriage gets all shiny from running you over:-)
