Oh man, i need to update more often. This weekend was interesting…I bought a ticket to the SAP Open finals yesterday, which I was really excited about. I’ve never watched professional tennis live and was looking forward to a good match between the number one seed, Andy Roddick and the number two seed, Fernando Verdasco. The tournament was being played in San Jose, to get there I had to transverse the ever-exciting Hwy 17.
This stretch of highway connects San Jose with Santa Cruz and crosses the Santa Cruz Mountians. It’s always a crapshoot as to the quality of drivers that you will be traveling alongside. Well yesterday, i must have rolled snake-eyes. As I’m going up 17, minding my own business, i’m going thru one of the many many curves in the highway and i hear and feel my car get hit by the car behind me in the next lane. I manage to avoid getting knocked into the guard rail and look back to see that some car just decided that this sunday morning they really need to get scratch their Nascar itch and that Hwy 17 and my car would be the perfect opportunity to do so. As I try to get over into the far right lane to find somewhere safe to pull off the road and check the damage done to my car, i see the other car just zip past me and continue onto San Jose and parts unknown, off to enjoy the rest of their Sunday. Eventually, i pull over and hop out to check my car, fortunately the damage seems to be pretty minimal and all cosmetic, which is great since my car is 12 years old and i don’t relish the idea of having to put any more money into it.
So i hop back in the car and continue on my way to San Jose, and get to enjoy watching the tournament. Unfortunately Roddick lost in 3 sets, but he was definitely outplayed so Verdasco deserved the victory. It was really impressive watching these guys serve tennis balls at 140+ mph, and Verdasco cranked one up to 150.
I went to the dentist this morning since i’ve been suffering from some serious mouth pains and now i’m all booked for a root canal tomorrow. This week can only get better i hope..
